The belief is that Malachi Toney will miss 4-6 weeks while recovering, sources tell @YahooSports. The timeline puts a possible return for the playoffs.

Dr. Sebastian Fearon believes Toney won’t be 100 percent if he comes back for the playoffs.
Best guess is a tight rope surgery for a high ankle sprain
If true, best case is 4-6 week return, however he won’t be 100% back even in the postseason
Brian Sutterer is a bit more optimistic but could see Toney’s recovery as longer than 4-6 weeks.
“So the big question now, how realistic is a good return for the college football playoffs? Well, I would not expect anything quicker than a month. We’re probably looking at more like 6 weeks.”
“And if you look at NFL wide receiver data, it could be even longer. And so this assumption that he will be back with no issues by the playoff is a very appropriate goal to have. That’s what I would tell my athletes if we were doing a surgery in this situation. I would say, hey, the hope is we’re going to have you back out there in a month, 6 weeks. If you look at the NFL data, sometimes it can be a little bit longer, but that also isn’t necessarily a situation where you’re coming up on a college football playoff.”
