Earlier this week, the motorsports world suffered an unthinkable tragedy when two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch suddenly passed away at the age of 41.
Busch, who was still an active driver and won a NASCAR Truck Series race just days earlier, suffered complications regarding an untreated case of pneumonia that ultimately developed into sepsis.
Despite that fact, NASCAR still held all three of its races this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway, a decision that CEO Steve O’Donnell explained prior to the events.
“I think it’s a fair question,” O’Donnell said when asked why NASCAR did not postpone the races. “But when you look at what minimal conversations did take place between RCR, ourselves, family, it was – Kyle Busch would probably be pretty pissed off if we didn’t race. So we’re gonna honor his memory and make sure people know what he was all about.”
Ultimately, most of the NASCAR world agreed with O’Donnell, even though drivers like Spire Motorsports’ Michael McDowell said that he had reservations about competing.
DraftKings SportsBook Did Not Void Bets On Kyle Busch After His Death
One organization that fans are strongly disagreeing with, however, is DraftKings sportsbook.
According to a post from NASCAR fan and X user @SkyboxNASCAR, the betting app/website still charged them for an earlier bet on Busch to win Sunday morning’s NASCAR Truck Series Race even after his passing.
I’m sure others have reported but I’ve been MIA this week. @DK_Assist you cannot be serious. Refund the people their money in honor of Rowdy. Stop this pic.twitter.com/8zCh8RLmZZ

“Some have reached out and said DK that they are ‘betting on the 7 truck.’ The rules say nothing about the truck; if so, they would be graded Josh Berry replacement bets as winners,” one fan replied.
“Nasty work from DK, but this shows you exactly who they are as a company,” wrote another.
Ultimately, DraftKings could decide to void the bets in retrospect, but it has not done so at the time of writing.
Ultimately, rising prospect Corey Day had the uncomfortable responsibility of filling Busch’s seat in the truck race. Day ran well before getting involved in a scary accident that he thankfully walked away from unscathed.

Richard Childress Racing driver Austin Hill is set to fill in for Busch in the Cup Series even on Sunday evening. The team has not announced its plans to fill the seat beyond this week.
