NASCAR will honor Kyle Busch’s death by continuing to race.
On Thursday, the 41-year-old Busch died after suffering from a serious, mysterious illness.
A day after Busch’s death, NASCAR CEO Steve O’Donnell spoke to the media to talk about the racecar driver’s untimely passing.
O’Donnell started the press conference by declining to answer health-related questions about Busch’s death out of respect for Busch’s family.
“You guys who have known me know that transparency is something that we all believe in. So in due time, I think everyone will be comfortable with where things stand.”
“I spent the rest of the day and the afternoon with the people I thought I should be spending it with in the industry, and just tried to be there for them.”
NASCAR’s Mike Forde led off CEO Steve O’Donnell’s press conference by saying that they currently do not have answers for any health-related questions pertaining to Kyle Busch’s illness and death. O’Donnell went on to explain why NASCAR won’t postpone its upcoming race after Busch’s death.
“I think it’s a fair question, but when you look at what minimal conversations did take place between RCR, ourselves, family, it was – Kyle Busch would probably be pretty pissed off if we didn’t race. So we’re gonna honor his memory and make sure people know what he was all about.”
Because I felt it was at least necessary to ask, I asked NASCAR CEO Steve O’Donnell if there was any consideration to postponing the Coca-Cola 600 due to Kyle Busch’s death.
