Georgetown Head Coach Ed Cooley Gives Profanity-Laced, Tone-Deaf Response To Heckler

It’s been a rough last few weeks for first-year Georgetown Head Coach Ed Cooley. Not only is the team not very good, but he’s received rough treatment at various Big East games.

And, things once again got ugly for Ed Cooley, as he had a less-than-stellar response to a heckler while in New Jersey for the Hoyas’ 76-70 loss to Seton Hall on Wednesday.

According to Jerry Carino of the Asbury Park Press, a Seton Hall student made a pretty benign quip at Ed Cooley, and Cooley said something he probably will regret.

As the final seconds ticked off the clock, a student yelled at Cooley: “That’s $7 million per win,” in reference to his salary (which is not fully known) and one conference victory.

Cooley walked over, arms outstretched with a broad smile, and yelled back: “You know what, I’m rich as a m———–, I’m rich as s—.”

Yeah, I’m sure the right thing for a coach who is just 1-10 in the conference. Yes, Patrick Ewing unfortunately left Cooley a program in disarray, but that’s just not a response you can say when you’ve somehow underperformed the incredibly low expectations you were given.

Cooley left Providence for Georgetown following last season, a move that was not well-received by the Friar faithful, to say the least.

Things were expected to get ugly when Cooley made his first trip back to Providence as Georgetown coach on January 27, and they did. Providence fans made it quite the hostile atmosphere, hurling expletives at Cooley as the Friars won, 84-76.

Things will surely get better in the nation’s capital. Georgetown is bringing in a top-20 recruiting last next year, and Cooley can coach. But, things are about as bad as they can get right now, otherwise.
