Reds star Elly De La Cruz continues to wow the baseball world, most recently by setting a record for fastest throw in the Statcast era. The feat came in Sunday’s NL Central showdown with the Brewers.

Fans are reacting to the impressive assist on social media as they give their thoughts on the now viral clip.

The rookie third baseman has taken the MLB by storm this season with a ridiculous combination of talent and athleticism. De La Cruz is hitting .297 in his first big-league season while adding four home runs and 16 stolen bases.

At one point this year, he actually stole every base on the basepath as he made his way around the diamond.

On Sunday, though, he was making noise on defense. During the third inning of action, De La Cruz fired an infield assist across the field at nearly 98 MPH.

The throw from De La Cruz is reportedly the fastest in the Statcast era, just besting Oneil Cruz’s throw from last season.

Fans were quick to post their commentary on social media. Here’s what they had to say.

One person wrote, “Only Elly De La Cruz can throw fast enough to throw Elly De La Cruz out at first.”

Another said, “Put him on the mound.”

This follower commented, “He’s just too good.”

The Reds would end up losing the game by a score of 4-3, but that doesn’t take anything away from this impressive play in the field.
