The fun of filling out NCAA Tournament brackets is that everyone can do it, and more often than not, it’s the person without a ton of knowledge about college hoops that ends up with the best predictions. What about the college basketball experts, which team do they think will come out on top this year?

ESPN rouned up all 54 of their college basketball commentators, analysts, and writers, and 23 of them circled Gonzaga to win the 2022 National Championship in New Orleans. While only 23 people were set on the Zags winning the title, 48 of the 54 picked them to at least make it to the Final Four.

Arizona had the second-most picks to win the title with 15, Kansas earned four, Kentucky and Houston each picked up three, while Tennessee and Purdue each got the nod from two people. Duke, Texas Tech, and UCLA were each picked to win the natty by one person.

College Hoops Experts Love The Wildcats And Cougars

One of the more surprising takeaways from the set of 54 picks involved Kentucky. The Wildcats were picked to make it to the Final Four by 37 of 54 respondents, which would snap a Final Four drought dating back to 2015.

The South region was by far the most confusing for people to predict. Arizona received 29 votes to come out of the South and punch its ticket to the Final Four, but plenty of people are high on Tennessee as well as the Vols earned 13 picks.

Houston has also gotten plenty of love from both experts and the computers in the South region. ESPN’s BPI gives the fifth-seeded Cougars the sixth-best probability in the entire field to make it to New Orleans, while four experts picked them to win the South as well.
