ESPN NFL analyst Matt Miller’s GoFundMe has been paused amid an investigation by the Missouri Attorney General.
A serious car accident in June caused Miller to suffer several injuries, including multiple fractures and broken ribs, and forced him to undergo a life-saving amputation of his left arm .
After the devastating crash, his sister-in-law posted a GoFundMe that multiple ESPN colleagues promoted, and Pat McAfee, Mina Kimes, Mel Kiper, and Adam Schefter submitted donations.
Shortly after that, a Reddit post titled “Matt Miller Leagues and Scam” began circulating, catching the attention of Awful Announcing. In the post, numerous people claimed to have participated in what Matt Miller advertised as charity fantasy football leagues.
Complaints ranged from Miller not paying out winnings or taking months to do so to people paying the entry fee but not receiving any league or draft information.
According to Awful Announcing, out of 91 leagues in which Matt Miller served as the commissioner during the 2025 football season, many of them never even reached an actual draft, and the platform eventually banned him. Miller admitted that the platform had banned him but blamed the situation on extensive hacking.
Other complaints against Miller included one person who said they signed up for football scouting lessons with the ESPN NFL analyst, the proceeds of which were advertised as going to charity, but never received any actual lessons after paying Miller $500. Several others lodged similar complaints, with some allegedly paying even more money.
Matt Miller is now under investigation by the Missouri Attorney General
All of this negative attention has now drawn the attention of the Missouri Attorney General. According to a spokesperson from the office, Matt Miller is now under investigation.
“The Missouri Attorney General’s Office encourages consumers who believe they have been misled to contact us,” the office said in a statement to USA Today. “Attorney General Hanaway takes consumer protection very seriously, and we will work diligently to uncover the facts.”
Because the investigation was ongoing, the attorney general’s office was unable to reveal its specifics. It did, however, suggest that the matter had to do with consumer protection.
The GoFundMe for Matt Miller surpassed its initial $10,000 goal, and organizers adjusted it upward twice as goals were hit, reaching $51,147 before they paused it. The fundraiser now lists Miller’s mother as the beneficiary after it had previously listed his sister-in-law.
