The Madden video game franchise will unveil its newest edition on Wednesday at 10 AM EST.

Every football fan, coach, and player are familiar with the game. Everyone who follows the NFL has had some sort of exposure to it. The popularity blew up so much that a nationwide video game competition developed that sees esports competitors duke it out online.

Year in and year out, the cover reveal is one of the most anticipated events in the NFL. And while sometimes it’s not the best omen to be on the front page (google Madden curse), it’s always a privilege to be considered for the honor.

And there have certainly been some notable recipients in the past. Over the years, we’ve seen stars like Barry Sanders, Eddie George, Daunte Culpepper, Michael Vick, Ray Lewis, Donovan McNabb, Brett Favre, Larry Fitzgerald, Drew Brees, Odell Beckham, and Lamar Jackson.

Last year’s edition was the first to feature two quarterbacks in Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes.

The cover release is always a talking point, and this year is no different.

Fans debate the Madden ’23 cover athlete

With EA Sports revealing that the cover will be unveiled on Wednesday, fans have been quick to chime in on their votes for the front page.

There are certainly many options throughout the NFL, but only one seems to make sense for the ’23 edition.

While many debate, there’s only one real choice

John Madden should be the only option for the front page.

Madden appeared on the cover all the way up through the 2000s. Bringing the namesake of the game in the year that he passed only seems fitting.

Hopefully EA Sports does the right thing.
