Things couldn’t have gone much worse for the New York Jets on Sunday. Not only did the team get blown out by the New England Patriots 54 to 13, the Jets also lost their first round draft pick Zach Wilson to a knee injury in the second quarter.

Wilson, the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, wasn’t exactly lighting it up so far in his first season as a pro with a miserable 63.5 QB rating, but unlike his backup at the quarterback position for the Jets, at least fans know he is a real person.

On Sunday, after Wilson exited the game with his knee injury, the Jets turned to quarterback Mike White to lead them the rest of the way.

When news of this change broke, many NFL fans on social media thought they were being trolled and/or didn’t believe White wasn’t just a made-up person.

White didn’t do an awful job in emergency duty, going 20 for 32 for 202 yards, with a touchdown (on his first pass) and two picks.

In case you were wondering (and many were), White – a real person – played his college football at the University of South Florida and Western Kentucky University.

At USF, he started five games as a true freshman, throwing for 1,083 yards, three touchdowns and nine interceptions. In his sophomore season, White had 1,639 yards passing, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions.

After transferring to Western Kentucky University and missing a season due to the NCAA rules, White passed for 4,363 yards with 37 touchdowns and seven interceptions. As a senior, he threw for 4,177 yards with 26 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.

He was then drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the fifth round – the eighth quarterback taken – in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Unfortunately for Jets fans, Zach Wilson was diagnosed with a sprained PCL after the game and will be forced to miss two to four weeks while he recovers.

By the way, considering no one had ever heard of Mike White before Sunday’s game, does anyone out there know who the Jets third string quarterback is? Because, according to NewYorkJets.com, not even the team is currently sure.
