FIFA Boss Gianni Infantino Is Yet Again Doing Everything He Can To Try And Ruin The World Cup

Next to the International Olympic Committee, few sports organizations are as corrupt as the good folks over at FIFA.

Previous FIFA president Sepp Blatter resigned in disgrace in 2015 after a corruption scandal rocked the international soccer governing body.

While Blatter wasn’t charged with anything at the time, he soon became the target of an investigation into a bribery scandal that spanned multiple decades.

In all, 14 people, nine of whom were current or former FIFA executives, were indicted on federal racketeering charges. Seven were arrested near FIFA headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland.

The charges alleged widespread corruption over a 24-year period, including wire fraud, racketeering and money laundering. Officials were also accused of accepting bribes and kickbacks, and even of buying and selling their votes for countries like Russia, Qatar and South Africa to host the prestigious World Cup tournament. – via History.com

The good news is that Blatter was replaced by a Swiss-Italian man named Gianni Infantino, which translates roughly to Jon Baby. Infantino previously worked under Blatter at FIFA. He came under investigation as well just months into his job as president.

Nothing came of the investigation and Infantino is still on the job. However, he’s doing his best to kill the FIFA World Cup while he can.

Infantino already oversaw the tournament’s expansion from 32 to 48 teams starting in 2026. Now he has an even worse idea for how to ruin maybe the world’s best sporting event.

Gianni Infantino Was To Make The FIFA World Cup A Triennial Event

The World Cup currently takes place just once every four years. But that’s part of what makes the event so special. Infantino, however, sees only dollar signs. And that means that more is always better.

He previously backed a plan to move the World Cup to an every-other-year format. But that was thankfully shot down. Now Infantino is trying again.

According to the Daily Mail, the FIFA head honcho wants to hold the sport’s premier event every three years.

Infantino’s long-term ambition is to institute a radical new tournament cycle, in which the World Cup takes place every three years, with the Club World Cup and continental competitions such as the European Championship being held in the other years.

No change could take place prior to the 2030 World Cup as schedules have already been set up until then. But it seems clear FIFA is intent on trying to fix something that isn’t broken.
