Fletcher Cox Was So Petty For Trolling Deebo Samuel Over 49ers Super Bowl Loss

Fletcher Cox had to watch Super Bowl LVIII from his couch after the Eagles failed to make it out of the first round of the playoffs, but he couldn’t resist the urge to take a bit of a victory lap after Deebo Samuel and the 49ers walked away with an L.

The Philadelphia Eagles were the team to beat in the NFC last season but ultimately came up short against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl after earning the right to play in The Big Game with a victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

However, that conference showdown was marred by the elbow injury that sidelined Brock Purdy and left the 49ers without a serviceable QB for the remainder of the game, and 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel eventually asserted things would’ve panned out differently if they hadn’t been faced with the steep hurdle they were unable to overcome.

It was kind of hard to argue that wouldn’t have been the case when we were treated to a rematch at the start of December that marked a major turning point for an Eagles team that was never really able to bounce back from the 42-19 blowout (where Samuel recorded 116 yard and two touchdowns) that marked a season-ending stretch where they lost five of their last six games.

Samuel couldn’t resist the urge to stir the pot in the leadup to Super Bowl LVIII, as he quipped “I consider rivalries close games” when asked about the supposedly burgeoning feud between San Francisco and Philadelphia.

It’s safe to say Eagles tackle Fletcher Cox kept those receipts, as he didn’t hesitate to fire a shot at Samuel after the 49ers fell to the Chiefs in overtime on Sunday while reminding the WR he’s still the only one with a Super Bowl ring.

Was it a wildly petty move from someone who’s not really in a place to throw stones in the first place based on how the most recent season unfolded? Absolutely, but I’d be lying if I said I’m not entertained.
