Floyd Mayweather Hoping To Increase Participation In NASCAR Cup Series In 2024

Floyd Mayweather is looking to enter a number of NASCAR Cup Series races in 2024.

Well, sort of.

Mayweather’s race team, The Money Team Racing, qualified for the Daytona 500 in 2023. It was just the team’s fourth ever race.

But Joseph Wolkin of Forbes reports that number is likely to grow drastically in 2024.

“The team’s goal is to enter five to eight races in 2024,” Wolkin reports. “Followed by the lofty goal of fielding a full-time effort with or without a charter in 2025.”

Forty teams compete in each weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series race. While 36 of those 40 teams are automatically qualified via a “charter” system that locks them into the race.

There are only 36 charters available and if a team is looking to sell one, they’re currently going for north of $10 million.

“We wanted to compete in more races [in 2023], but it just didn’t work out,” team co-owner Becky Auchmoody told Wolkin. “We were prepared, started to get everything ready for the year and it just didn’t follow through. Every race is a learning experience for us. Every time we hit the track, we want to put forward the best effort we can.”

Mayweather himself is the primary backer of the team. But he has little to do with the day-to-day operations.

The legendary boxer has backed Auchmoody, as well as her husband William, from the start.

“We are really excited to see TMT Racing continue to grow under Becky’s leadership. She has been the heart of our team since day one,” Mayweather said in a statement. “Her involvement is great for NASCAR and the empowerment of women in sports.”

The Money Team has never failed to qualify for a race. But it’s also finished no better than 23rd in its six races run. They’re hoping that will change in 2024.
