Sometimes, it’s just not your night. That was certainly the case for Georgia Tech’s basketball team on Tuesday as it was beaten soundly by ACC foe Wake Forest.

The Yellow Jackets really didn’t have it when facing their Tar Heel State rival this week. In maybe their worst performance of the year, GT found itself down nearly 30 points after the first 15 minutes of play.

At home, just a week after knocking off No. 3 North Carolina.

The Yellow Jackets mustered just six points over those first 15 minutes, falling behind 35-6 in the first half. The up and down trend surrounding this team, which also beat Duke earlier this season, continued in a major way.

In this case, Tech showed just how down, down can be.

The Jackets shot just 28% from the floor and were an abysmal 3-24 behind the arc. They started the game by making just one of their first 24 attempts, going on a streak of 22 straight misses after scoring their first basket.

While shooting improved in the second half, the Yellow Jackets wouldn’t overcome that early 29-point deficit. Eventually, they’d fall 80-51.

Head coach Damon Stoudamire was short in his postgame analysis, giving the most relatable response to the blowout defeat.

“We got that a– whooped,” Stoudamire said in his opening statement. A brief yet accurate account of what unfolded on the floor.

The head coach kept it 100% real with fans after the loss, giving no excuse for the poor play.

Stoudamire’s bunch continues to be one of the most difficult to read thus far in the 2023-24 campaign. The Yellow Jackets boast wins over UNC, Duke, Mississippi State, and Clemson while falling to the likes of UMass-Lowell and a bad Notre Dame squad.

They also nearly escaped upset bids from UMass, Howard, and Hawaii and currently sit at 10-13 on the year.

It wasn’t Georgia Tech’s night on Tuesday, but based on their consistent inconsistency, it very well could be on Saturday against Louisville.
