Harold Varner III joins the latest round of golfers to move on from the PGA Tour to LIV. Varner, along with Cameron Smith, Joaquin Niemann, Marc Leishman, Cameron Tringale, and Anirban Lahiri will all be transitioning into the new league following the conclusion of the PGA season.

HV3 posted an announcement of the move on his Instagram page, detailing his reasoning behind leaving the Tour.

“I’ve always been real, so let me tell it to you straight. I have joined the LIV Golf Tour. The PGA TOUR has been a life changer. It’s given me, an ordinary kid from rural Gastonia, North Carolina, the opportunity to make something out of my life… The truth is, my life is changing. The opportunity to join LIV Golf is simply too good of a financial breakthrough for me to pass by. I know what it means to grow up without much. This money is going to ensure that my kid and future Varners will have a solid base to start on… Your opinion of me may change because of this announcement. No lie, that’ll be a tough thing to deal with. But I haven’t changed – I’m still me. I promise you that.”

Varner has always been unapologetically himself. We know that better than most as he once co-hosted our ‘Rippin It’ podcast.

And while others in golf have hidden behind the facade of moving to LIV for more family time and a new format, Varner notes that he followed the money. The financial impact will benefit not only him, but his children and grandchildren after him. Many around the golf world are applauding HV3 for his honest admission on moving to LIV.

Harold Varner III applauded for LIV announcement

Many around golf have given props to Harold Varner III for his comments on the move to LIV. Check out some of the response on social media.

Darren Rovell wrote, “I’ve always had a tremendous amount of respect for @HV3_Golf. Good for him for saying his move to LIV Golf was about the money.”

Another Twitter user posted, “Harold just released his statement. It’s probably the best I’ve seen.”

And how about this reply from NY Post writer Brian Wacker?

“Harold Varner III at least didn’t dance around it or BS: ‘The opportunity to join LIV Golf is simply too good of a financial breakthrough for me to pass by.’ Presuming Michael Jordan told him to wait until the playoffs were over to maximize the cash grab.”

Golf writer Jason Sobel said, “This is really well done. You might not like the fact that Harold Varner III has left for LIV — and he seems to understand that — but I’m not sure the explanation could be any better.”

While it won’t necessarily win over any PGA supporters, at least Varner can get some of their respect following the move to LIV.
