Brady Tkachuk next to jerseys thrown onto the ice by Senators fans
There was zero doubt Brady Tkachuk was going to be treated to a hostile welcome when he headed back to Ottawa for the first time since he forced the Senators to trade him. Fans who attended that showdown ensured that was the case, including dozens of people who hurled his jersey onto the ice during the contest.
Brady Tkachuk spent the first eight seasons of his NHL career as a member of the Senators, and while fans didn’t have a ton to root for when you consider they only made the playoffs two times during that span (back-to-back first-round exits starting in 2025), he managed to give them a glimmer of hope while transforming into a star.
However, speculation that Tkachuk was angling for an exit was confirmed earlier this year when he was traded to the Panthers to join his brother Matthew in Florida, a move that came after he informed the team’s GM he had no interest in signing a new contract once his current deal expired and essentially orchestrated his premature departure.
Plenty of fans circled October 21st on their calendars after learning that would be the first time Tkachuk would be playing at the Canadian Tire Centre in a different jersey, and we now know exactly how many people voiced their displeasure with the former Senator by discarding the ones they purchased while he was still suiting up for them.
A grand total of 37 Brady Tkachuk jerseys were thrown onto the ice during his return to Ottawa
Tkachuk seemed to embrace his new role as a villain in Ottawa during his return, and fans showered him with a number of different chants while breaking out in boos every single time he touched the puck during what ended up being a 6-1 win for the home team (although he was responsible for the only goal the Panthers scored).

The members of the ice crew were also kept very busy during the contest, as they had to repeatedly skate out onto the rink to retrieve the Tkachuk jerseys that angry fans threw onto it.

On Monday, Ian Mendes, the vice president of the team’s communications arm, revealed that 37 Tkachuk jerseys were collected when everything was said and done, a tally that was performed after the player whose name was on the back of them pledged a donation to BGC Ottawa linked to the number of sweaters deposited.
Mendes also noted “a lot” of the jerseys “were in damaged or unusable condition” due to fans who seemingly pulled out scissors or a knife (and possibly lit them on fire) before parting with them for good.
You have to respect the pettiness.
