Hugh Freeze Takes Aim At Tigers Fans On Social Media While Establishing Auburn’s Future At QB

Hugh Freeze struggled to find consistency at the quarterback position during his first year as the head football coach at Auburn. However, that does not necessarily mean that he is going to make a change.

In fact, the 54-year-old claims that the Tigers are not seeking a new signal-caller through the college football transfer portal. Freeze could be lying, as he has been known to do, but he says that he likes the guys he already has in the system!

Auburn primarily played two quarterbacks last year. None were spectacular.

Michigan State transfer Payton Thorne threw for 1,755 yards and 16 touchdowns on a 61.1% completion clip with 10 interceptions. Robby Ashford completed 14 of 27 passes for 145 yards and two scores with two picks while rushing for 217 yards and five scores on 46 carries. Three-star freshman Hank Brown and four-star sophomore Holden Geriner also saw limited reps.

The Tigers went 6-7. Stats aside, the quarterback play was a large factor in the inability to eclipse the .500 mark on the year.

Things will mostly look the same in 2024!

Ashford transferred to South Carolina. Thorne, Brown and Geriner remain with the program, and four-star freshman Walker White enrolled early.

Fans of Auburn wished all offseason that their team would add an additional arm to the mix. They largely do not believe that Thorne is the best person to lead their team. They were excited about the possibility of an additional transfer.

However, Hugh Freeze is apparently content with the group he has.

As someone who is (probably too) active on X, formerly known as Twitter, the head coach saw all of the conversation over the last few weeks. He is standing by his guys! (For now!)

Freeze really cracked himself up there! It will be interesting to see if he stands by his word.

Although the current quarterback room seems to excite him, a second transfer portal window will open up after spring practice. If Freeze is not still excited, Auburn is a top destination for a transfer.
