The Stevens County Sheriff’s Office in Washington state received an unusual inquiry from a hunter asking about Bigfoot in March.

It seems that a hunter visiting from out of town wanted to know the legality of shooting the creature if he were to stumble upon it.

He did clarify, however, that if the Bigfoot were female he wouldn’t shoot at it.

“Interesting call that came to the Sheriff’s Office this past week that our office staff passed on as a phone message,” the Stevens County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Facebook.

“Mr. [name redacted] is worried about how to stay within the law while hunting in the Big Meadow Lake area because our state rules are not clear about hunting Bigfoot,” the Sheriff’s Office continued.

“Mr. [name redacted] has concerns about how to stay legal while hunting the Big Meadow Lake area because our state regulations are unclear regarding Sasquatch hunts.

“He needs to know: 1. Is it illegal in Stevens County to shoot Bigfoot? 2. Does he need a regular hunting license to keep his Bigfoot hunt legal?

“Mr. [name redacted] says he of course will not hunt or shoot female Sasquatch.

“If he doesn’t hear from someone today, he plans to call back tomorrow.”

The Stevens County Sheriff’s Office then stated that their Patrol Chief called the hunter back “to pass on two important pieces of information.”

“1. Meadow Lake is in Pend Oreille County Sheriff jurisdiction and he would have more information on that topic.

“2. There are no Sasquatch in Stevens County. We know this because one of our deputies would have accidently [sic] hit one with a patrol car by now!”

Despite the Sheriff’s Office’s statement, Washington state is well-known for numerous sightings of Bigfoot over the years.

The Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO) reports there have been more recorded sightings of the creature in the state of Washington than any other in America.

It has recorded 717 Bigfoot sightings in the state, 256 more than California, which is second on the list with 461.

The Rocky Mountain Sasquatch Organization (RMSO) also wrote in 2023 about numerous counties in the state of Washington, “Our team receives several sighting reports from these areas each year including photos, videos & vocalizations.”
