Iman Shumpert, who won a championship with LeBron James during his second run with the Cleveland Cavaliers, appeared on This is 50 this week and explained why he thinks so many NBA fans hate The King.
Not surprisingly, one of the biggest reasons Shumpert cited for NBA fans hating him was, well, LeBron is just really, really good.
“He ain’t got no marks on his resume and people just want him to look more like a person,” said Shumpert. “They just want to mark him up a little bit because he’s trying so hard to do all the right things.
“There’s times I told people that Bron hurt me and I feel like ‘why’d he do this’ or ‘why’d he do that?'” he continued. “And I think about it and like, he probably had to think about from a totally different perspective.”
“Even if he got a decision in his heart, he can’t make it knowing he affect all that’s under his umbrella,” Shumpert added while talking about all the people who depend on James with his different brands and other projects.
“To know all of this his whole career, and not make a terrible step? That’s incredible. And then still be playing at this level. That’s incredible.”
Shumpert also pointed out that unlike many NBA players, LeBron has been with the same woman since high school, he’s a good father, and… he goes to the NBA Finals with a regularity we haven’t seen since Michael Jordan.
There’s also that little thing called “The Decision” that some fans still can’t seem to get over, but Shumpert is right on the money with the other stuff.
Shumpert also recently appeared on VladTV and revealed that he and his wife Teyana Taylor exchanged lists of the famous people they’d slept with when they first started dating so there wouldn’t be any surprises when they went out. (Insert big eyes emoji here.)
That certainly took some stones, but then again, so did wearing this fit to the 2019 CFDA Fashion Awards.
