Indiana upset 16th-ranked Purdue during its college basketball game on Sunday afternoon. However, the Hoosiers got away with a dirty foot stomp to the groin because Big Ten officials decided to look the other way.
An argument can be made in either direction and, thus, it was a controversial no call even after review!
The incident took place right before halftime after the Boilermakers missed a layup from inside three feet. Hoosiers guard Anthony Leal battled with Caleb Furst for the rebound but neither guy could come down with the ball and they fell to the floor in awkward fashion. Their initial tumble was incidental.
That may not be the case for what happened next. Furst stayed down on the hardwood as Leal got back to his feet. In doing so, the former extended his leg outward to kick the latter directly in the groin.
Furst immediately threw his hands up in the air to protest Leal’s crotch kick. A nearby official saw the whole thing go down and decided to send the play to the monitor.
Upon further review, no foul was called on the play. Anthony Leal was allowed to continue without a flagrant or technical foul. Caleb Furst did not get two shots. Purdue was not awarded possession.
Here is how it all went down:

I personally think there was enough there to issue a flagrant foul for unnecessary contact to an opponent. I don’t know whether Leal was trying to get Furst where the sun does not shine but there is no way to deny that he kicked out his leg and I have seen fouls called for much less.
The question, then, is whether the play was deserving of a Flagrant 1 or a Flagrant 2— which would lead to an ejection. If I was the official, I probably would’ve gone with a Flagrant 1. It was not ruled as either!
