Indiana basketball may have lost in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament, but two Hoosiers cheerleaders made the play of the game. If she doesn’t make the ‘One Shining Moment’ montage, it would be incredibly disappointing.

Early in the second half, Indiana drove into the lane and put up a layup that was viciously swatted away by the St. Mary’s defense. The lofty trajectory of the block sent the ball up, over the backboard.

Once it came to a stop, the ball settled wedged between the shot clock and backboard. In turn, a large search effort began.

First, the tallest Gael on the court tried to knock the ball loose with a floor mop. That didn’t work.

Then, the referee stood on a chair and tried to knock the ball loose with a floor mop. That didn’t work.

It was quite the predicament, but Nathan Paris and Cassidy Cerny saved the day. The two Hoosier cheerleaders had practiced for this, although they didn’t know it— it was their time to shine.

Paris boosted Cerny over his head, as if it was a formation for a cheer routine, and Cerny reached out and pulled down the stuck ball. Meanwhile, both the crowd and the broadcast announcers went wild. A thunderous applause broke out in the arena as the two Hoosiers soaked in their moment of glory.

It was the biggest, most exciting rebound of the game.

The stunt work paid off in a bigger way than they ever expected.
