There aren’t many restaurants designed to scratch a late-night hunger itch quite like Taco Bell. Unfortunately, a basketball player at Indiana University found himself in handcuffs thanks to what transpired during a visit to the fast food chain over the weekend.

The Indiana Hoosiers are slated to kick off the regular season against Florida Gulf Coast University on November 7th. The team boasts a handful of new additions this year, including Mackenzie Mgbako, a five-star recruit from New Jersey who initially committed to Duke before opting to take his talents to Bloomington.

The freshman forward was expected to be a pretty big contributor during his inaugural college basketball campaign, but according to Fox59, he’s already encountered a bit of a setback due to an incident that unfolded at a Taco Bell location near the Indiana University campus early on Sunday morning.

The outlet reports police were dispatched to the restaurant at 2:15 A.M. after receiving a call from a manager who stated they were “refusing service to [a] man in a vehicle that allegedly cursed and was being ‘rude’ to employees.”

The police report asserts Mgbako was parked in the drive-thru when officers arrived, and while he moved his car, he declined to leave the property despite being ordered to do exactly that multiple times. Things eventually reached a point where he was informed he was being arrested, which led to the following scene:

“Officers had to use a baton to break the passenger side window of the vehicle to unlock the doors. Upon opening the driver’s door, Mgbako was given commands to exit the driver’s seat, but he refused to do so.

Officers had to forcibly remove him from the vehicle and he tensed his arms and would not allow officers to secure him in handcuffs.”

Mgbako has been charged with criminal trespass and resisting law enforcement (both misdemeanors) and was transported to a local jail. The school has not issued a statement as of this writing, but it’s safe to assume he’ll be facing some disciplinary action from the team on top of the potential legal ramifications.
