Lionel Mess is headed to the MLS, and we’re already seeing the impact at the box office. The soccer superstar is signing with Inter Miami, causing ticket prices to skyrocket instantaneously.

The addition is huge news for American soccer as the US will now house quite possibly the sport’s biggest name. You’ll have to pay a pretty penny to see Messi in person, however, as those prices in Miami grow exponentially.

Just how much, you ask.

How about a 1500% increase?

According to the TickPick ticket site, the prices have risen by more than $400. Entry to Inter Miami’s upcoming July 21st matchup would’ve cost you less than $30 prior to Messi’s signing. Now, the cheapest seats for his potential debut are going for nearly $470.

For reference, that’s more than NBA Finals tickets between the Miami Heat and Denver Nuggets.

Fans have been quick to comment on the Inter Miami ticket price increase as they posted reactions online.

One person joked, “I should’ve bought my tickets yesterday.”

Another said, “Imagine buying season passes before this happened.”

This follower commented, “Catch me tailgating in parking lot at that rate.”

Lionel Messi chose Inter Miami over a very lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia’s Al Halil. That reported amount exceeded $1 billion over two years, which he turned down due to family concerns.

Apparently, Messi and his wife Antonela Roccuzzo rejected the offer because they couldn’t imagine raising their kids in the Gulf.

Instead, he’ll get a share of MLS Season Pass revenue from Apple with his new deal. Quite the consolation prize.

The Saudis’ loss is the United States’ gain. We’ll soon see the soccer superstar on the field in Miami.
