Jack Gohlke led Oakland to a win over Kentucky in the First Round of March Madness on Thursday night. His game-high 32 points led the 14-seed Golden Grizzlies to a massive upset win over the 3-seed Wildcats and all of his shot attempts were from beyond the arc.

He has the green light from anywhere on the floor.

If practice on Thursday was any indication, the word “anywhere” should be taken literally. Gohlke casually drained an insane full-court shot less than 24 hours after the biggest win of his life!

Oakland (which is not where you think it is located) will play N.C. State in the Round of 32 on Saturday night. The Wolfpack already knew that they are going to have to guard Gohlke as a three-point shooter. They did not know that they will have to guard him from baseline to baseline. His range is unlimited.

Gohlke, a graduate transfer who began his career on the D-II level with five years at Hillsdale College, has the most insane single-season stat line in college basketball. And he only started seven games!

The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 12.8 points in 29.7 minutes this year. While that might not stand out as anything special, you have to look deeper.

Jack Gohlke attempted 355 shots during the 2023/24 season and made 38%. 347 of his attempts were triples.

Six of them were put-backs in the paint. One was with his foot on the line. Only one was from mid range.

A shot chart of Gohlke’s attempts from this season is art.

Thus far, every one of Gohlke’s shots has been from beyond half court. That could change in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament if practice on Friday is any indication.

Oakland is clearly preparing to take every shot from beyond the baseline. The Grizzlies are going to have Gohlke set up for the inbounds pass and have him shoot instead.

Obviously not, but…. imagine?!
