Jalen Brewster transferred to Buford High School in Georgia this offseason ahead of his senior year. He is currently ineligible to play for his new team.
The five-star recruit’s family has not filed the necessary paperwork. It leaves his status with the Wolves up in the air.
When will he make his debut? We’ll have a clearer picture after documentation is submitted.
Who is Jalen Brewster?
The defensive lineman is the nation’s No. 1 overall prospect, boasting unanimous five-star status with major recruiting outlets. He is committed to play for Texas Tech.
Brewster made that pledge in October of last year. He was heavily pursued by LSU but officially shut down his recruitment last month.
It is believed he’ll take a pay cut to play for the Red Raiders. The Tigers supposedly offered $1.5 million in NIL money. Texas Tech will pay $1 million for his first season of college football, though they may or may not have sweetened the deal with a property purchase.
Brewster, though his parents as trustees, bought a piece of land in Lubbock at some point earlier this year. It is unclear if it was received as part of an NIL agreement.
Either Brewster bought the property with money that was already paid to him by the Red Raiders, bought the property with family money knowing that it would soon be paid off with the money secured upon arrival to campus, or received the property as part of an NIL package with the school to which he had already committed.
Whatever the case, the lineman made his intentions clear that he will play for Texas Tech next year. Doubts were cast when he left the Lone Star State for his final high school football season. He put them to bed in August.

Jalen Brewster suited up for Cedar Hill last season. He hopes to play for Buford in 2026, one of the nation’s top programs.
He has enrolled at his new high school. He is not yet eligible to play.
Sports Illustrated provided an update on his transfer ahead of the Wolves’ second game. The school is still awaiting paperwork to begin the eligibility process.
Jalen Brewster is officially enrolled at Buford and attending classes, but the high-profile transfer’s paperwork has not yet been submitted to the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) for eligibility clearance.
Buford High School athletic director Tom Beuglas told High School on SI that the school is still waiting on the documentation required to begin that process.
“Jalen is registered and attending classes here, but we have not turned him in for eligibility yet as we are waiting on all of the documentation GHSA requires,” said Buford AD Tom Beuglas. “His father is working on getting this completed.”
Buford opened its 2026 season on August 22 against Gainesville. Brewster’s transfer was made public that same weekend.
The Wolves were off last week, providing two-week window for paperwork to be submitted. That process remains incomplete.
The team will take the field for its second game on Friday vs. Mallard Creek. For now, their star transfer is not in the lineup.
Buford cannot begin the eligibility process until it receives necessary documentation from Brewster’s family. When it does, paperwork can be submitted to the GHSA.
The unfiled documents create speculation surrounding timelines. I do not personally know how lengthy the GHSA approval process is.
Buford is unable to start that process of adding its newest member. He may not make his debut in Georgia this Friday.
