Cincinnati’s miraculous run came to an end on Sunday. After bursting onto the scene in his first year in the league, Ja’Marr Chase had a great game but was kept in check by the Rams defense during the crucial moments of Super Bowl LVI and the Bengals fell short.

The NFL’s offensive rookie of the year recorded five catches for 89 yards but did not find the end zone. Outside of a 46-yard catch that helped lead to a field goal in the first half, Chase wasn’t much of a factor down the stretch. With that being said, it was not entirely his fault— he did the best that he could given the fact that his quarterback had no time to throw all night.

And the deep ball was insane.

The three-point loss was a lot closer on the scoreboard than it was on the field and it served as a reminder that the Bengals’ rebuild is not complete. Cincinnati is well on its way to finding consistent relevance and there is no denying that. Chase is a big part of that rise.

However, there is still work to be done in terms of personnel and there is work to be done in terms of execution on the biggest stage. That will come with time.

In the meantime, the Bengals came so close to completing one of the greatest Cinderella runs in NFL history on Sunday. After winning just four game in 2020 and two games in 2019, Cincinnati went 10-7 and lost the Super Bowl by three.

It was an incredible season, but losing still hurts.

After the game, Chase had just one word to sum up the feeling of defeat.

Chase’s reaction couldn’t be more relatable. We’ve all sat back at one point or another after taking an L with no emotion, no words, no feelings and just thought “damn.”

He’ll be back.
