For an assortment of reasons, Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran is a frequent target of fan abuse. No one in baseball has had as many run-ins with fans over the past few years than Duran.
Part of the reason fans target him, as despicable as it may be, is because Jarren Duran revealed during the Netflix series The Clubhouse: A Year With the Red Sox that he attempted suicide in 2022. Duran, who showed in the documentary how ridiculously hard he is on himself for someone who is good enough at baseball to make an MLB All-Star team, became so depressed about fan criticism in 2022 that he took a rifle and a bullet, and when he pulled the trigger, the gun clicked, but thankfully, nothing happened.
Since then, sick baseball fans have tried to weaponize that admission against him when he fails or just to try and get under his skin.
It happened this past April and Duran got in some hot water when he flipped the fan off after grounding out during a game in Minnesota. Last year, he had to be restrained from going after a fan who referenced his suicide attempt during a game against the Cleveland Guardians.

And it has been happening again, as Jarren Duran showed on Wednesday night on his Instagram story when he shared screenshots of messages a fan sent him. The first message read, “Shoulda pulled that trigger.” The second message, from the same fan, said, “Shoulda took notes from Kurt cobain at least he was man enough to pull the trigger.”
In a third screenshot, Duran copied a Google search he did for the fan’s name. The search results included an address, the name of an employer, and an arrest history. It’s unclear if it was the same person who sent him the messages.
After he flipped a fan off in April, Jarren Duran said, “I’m used to it at this point. S— happens. I’m going to flip somebody off if they say something to me. It is what it is. I shouldn’t react like that, but that stuff is still kind of triggering. It happens.”
Apparently, in the midst of his worst season as a pro, he once again reached a tipping point with a fan harassing him. Hard to blame him.
