A leaked image of Jayson Tatum’s signature sneaker has been met with criticism from NBA fans. The Celtics star has partnered with Jordan Brand, but not many are on board with his new JT1s.

Joining the brand in 2019, Tatum was part of a new wave of NBA stars hoping to market the company to the next generation. Unfortunately, this latest shoe missed the mark.

Sneaker News was the first to drop the first look for the footwear that’s expected to be released sometime in 2023. They posted a photo of the JT1s on their social media accounts Thursday.

Here’s more on Tatum’s new design.

This first look at Jayson Tatum’s JT1 reveals a mid-cut design, with a mesh overlay and decorative heel panel. this particular black/red sees an embroidered pattern on the heel and tongue, while the JT logo — seen on several Air Jordan PEs — appears in gold. The most eye-catching design element is the cored-out midsole mimicking the “windows” on the Air Jordan 11 IE Low, exposing the forefoot. The cushioning elements of the JT1 are unknown, although it’s possible that a combination of Zoom Air and/or Formula23 (debuting the Luka 1) could be expected.

The Jordan JT1 is expected to release in several colorways for its debut season, so stay tuned for updates.

While that description of the sneaker would lead you to believe it’s in high demand, the social media reaction indicates quite the opposite.

Take a look at what fans were saying online.

One follower wrote, “Looks like something you’d find at Walmart,” while another said, “First and last look…”

This fan commented, “These already on sale at TJ Maxx,” while this one asked, “Why’d they do Jayson Tatum like that??”

Safe to say these won’t be jumping off the shelves once released to the public. The JT1s might need to rethink the design based on this recent backlash.
