Jeff Traylor has done a remarkable job at UTSA and he would be a great hire to succeed Jimbo Fisher as the next head football coach at Texas A&M University. The 55-year-old reportedly interviewed for the job.

However, it does not seem like Traylor is going anywhere!

Things can change. Coaching searches are fluid. Traylor has been mostly non-committal about his future over the last week, including comments on Monday afternoon.

His unwillingness left a lot of room for conjecture.

If Texas A&M chooses to pass on Traylor, other schools are going to reach out. Baylor and Arkansas might be among those with interest should they move on from Dave Aranda and Sam Pittman. Any program in search of a new coach would be lucky to have him.

But… Jeff Traylor doesn’t seem like he is especially interested in leaving. He finally addressed the rumors head-on during an appearance on R+R In The Morning with Rob Thompson and Rudy Jay.

My objective is to take care of my players and ONLY my players. My wife and I LOVE it here. We want to stay here. We’ve got things to do here. We are still way behind in a lot of areas that my president, my AD, and our boosters are working like heck to get caught up.

The good news is, when people are out there discussing hiring you, for some reason your own place seems to get moving a little faster. So this is a win-win for everyone.

That is the most definitive statement Traylor has made about coaching elsewhere thus far.

Although what he had to say left the door cracked for a departure, for him to say that he and his wife want to stay in San Antonio is a big deal. It will give Roadrunners fans a lot of hope.

Traylor is 38-13 as a head college football coach. UTSA won seven games in his first year, 12 in year two and 11 in year three.

There was a slight drop off to begin the 2023 season as Frank Harris dealt with injury and struggled to find a groove. The Roadrunners are still in a position to win at least nine games and win the American with an undefeated conference record.

They will travel to New Orleans this weekend for a massive game against No. 18 Tulane. Traylor will need to keep his players focused as speculation swirls. A win on Saturday would be one of the biggest wins in school history. All of the others happened in each of the last two years, under Traylor.
