Ball State defensive back Sebastian Moore could be tasked with guarding Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith during the first game of his college football career. Maybe.

He is trying to get big in case he hears his number called!

The haters were quick to point and laugh but his high school coach is rightfully proud of his work in the weight room. Wouldn’t it be great if Moore put the clamps on the best pass-catcher in college football as a true freshman? That would be an awesome story. September 5th cannot come soon enough.

Who is Sebastian Moore?

As a native of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Moore played at North Side High School. The Legends finished at 6-5 last season but they would not have won six games without their two-way star senior.

Sebastian Moore played both defensive back and wide receiver for head coach Ben Johnson. He was named to the Indiana High School Football Coaches Association Region 3 All Star Team after recording 539 receiving yards with three touchdowns and 19 tackles with one interception.

Moore also played basketball at North Side. His 16.8 points per game on 45% shooting led the team in scoring as a senior.

Needless to say, Moore is an impressive athlete! However, his future is on the gridiron.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound defensive back received three college football scholarship offers from Ball State, Eastern Illinois and Indianapolis. He ultimately committed to the Cardinals.

Jeremiah Smith presents a difficult challenge for Ball State.

Ball State will soon conclude its spring practice period with a scrimmage this weekend. Sebastian Moore did not enroll early at the university so he could not join his future teammates during spring ball.

That did not stop the second-semester senior from putting in the work on his own time!

Coach Johnson posted a video of Moore in the weight room earlier this week. He was pumping curls.

Even though it can be a challenge to earn playing time as a true freshman who arrived during fall camp, Moore will be ready. The Cardinals open the 2026 season in Columbus against Ohio State.

That creates a rather difficult matchup for the soon-to-be college defensive back!

Sebastian Moore and the Ball State secondary is tasked with trying to stop Jeremiah Smith. Smith, at 6-foot-3, 225 pounds, caught 163 passes for 2,558 yards and 27 touchdowns in the last two seasons.

I don’t know whether Moore is going to get in the game on Sept. 6, but it would be an incredible story if he managed to lock down the best wide receiver in college football during his debut. Stay tuned!
