Jerry Jones Gives Telling Update On Potential Dak Prescott Return And Cowboys Fans Should Be Excited

The Dallas Cowboys have now been without star quarterback Dak Prescott for over a month. Prescott suffered a broken thumb in Dallas’ season-opening loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was expected to miss 6-to-8 weeks.

That timeline has since shifted a number of times, with Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones doing his best doctor impersonation along the way. While many expected Dallas’ season to crumble, it’s surprisingly gone in the opposite direction.

Backup quarterback Cooper Rush has largely avoided major mistakes and the Cowboys’ defense has grown into one of the best in the NFL. Dallas has a 4-1 record since the injury and sits at 4-2 overall. The impressive stretch even led Jones to back Rush as a potential starter long-term. Though he eventually regained his sanity and proclaimed Prescott the starter once he gets fully healthy.

But Rush had his worst showing yet in a 26-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night. He went just 18-of-38 for 181 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. Dallas fell behind 20-0 before eventually cutting the lead to 20-17 early in the fourth quarter. Though Rush’s mistakes eventually proved to much to overcome.

Now it appears Prescott is going to be back sooner rather than later.

Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Says Dak Prescott Is ‘Determined’ To Return In Week 7

The Cowboys’ schedule finally lets up in the coming weeks. The soft stretch begins with a Week 7 matchup with the 1-4 Detroit Lions. In fact, Dallas faces the entirety of the NFC North in its next four games.

Jones went on Dallas radio station 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday and claimed his star signal caller could return against the Lions.

“Well, let’s just say this: He’s determined to [play],” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. “I think he’s, from my perspective, from what I can know and see, I think he’s going to get there. We feel like that physically, he’s at a position that the risk/reward justifies him being out there in terms of any reoccurrence of the injury.” – via ESPN

Prescott’s return would be a welcome addition for Dallas. The Cowboys rank 23rd in the league with just 18.3 points per game.
