Update:

Prior to Denzel Mims getting officially waived, the Jets called the Dallas Cowboys about trading a conditional 7th round pick for him, per Mike Fisher.

Original Story:

The New York Jets have informed wide receiver Denzel Mims, their 2020 2nd round pick, that he will be waived and have excused him from reporting to camp, according to New York Post’s Brian Costello.

Despite the impending release, there is still hope for Mims to find a new home in the NFL.

Several teams have shown interest in claiming him, and there’s a possibility that a last-minute trade could be made to secure his services. The Jets are actively exploring trade options before finalizing the release.

Mims has faced challenges since being drafted, starting in only 15 out of 30 games he played over three seasons.

During this time, Denzel Mims managed to record 42 catches for 676 yards but failed to score any touchdowns.

Despite the disappointments, the 6’3″, 207-pound receiver’s impressive combination of speed and size, running a 4.38 40-yard dash, has caught the attention of potential suitors.

As the situation unfolds, Mims remains optimistic about a fresh start with a new team.

With various teams in communication with the Jets about a possible trade, there is still a chance for Denzel Mims to revive his career and make an impact elsewhere in the NFL.
