Jim Harbaugh can’t seem to make up his mind on his coaching future. His name has been linked to a number of jobs in the NFL, but he continues to emphasize his commitment to the Wolverines.

Well, sort of.

His latest statement to Michigan fans was basically, “I’ll be here unless something better comes along.”

The head coach, who’s previously spent time in the NFL, has been rumored to be in the running for openings at Carolina, Denver, Arizona, Indianapolis, and Houston. On Monday, he reportedly interviewed with one of those suitors virtually.

NFL interest isn’t something new to Jim Harbaugh. After leading the 49ers to a Super Bowl a decade ago, teams have been itching to steal him away from the college ranks. He was a candidate for the Minnesota job last season, but ultimately didn’t land it. Following that interview, he pledged his allegiance to the Michigan program.

He told the Athletic Director that the situation was a “one-time thing,” but it’s now rearing its head once again.

Harbaugh has already been contacted by the Panthers, speaking with David Tepper about their opening. Now, he’s interviewed with the Broncos, just days after saying he “enthusiastically expects to be coaching Michigan in 2023.”

NFL insider Tom Pelissero had the following to say about that discussion on Tuesday.

“The Broncos kicked off their head coaching search on Monday by conducting a virtual interview with Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh. The sides spoke, I’m told, for over two hours. Harbaugh, of course, put out a statement last week… but he seems to be weighing his NFL options in recent weeks. He now has emerged as a top candidate in Denver.”

Harbaugh seems far from committed to his current team, and fans took some time to troll Michigan over the recent news.

One person wrote, “Michigan fans denial tweets in 3, 2, 1…,” while another asked, “The same Jim Harbaugh who is fully committed to staying at Michigan?”

The Wolverines will hope to hold on to their head coach as he’s led them to back-to-back appearances in the College Football Playoff. We’ll see if the NFL temptation finally lures Harbaugh back in.
