Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh spoke with the media for the first time since his suspension and made some eye-opening comments.

On Friday, Harbaugh was suspended for the rest of the college football season by the Big Ten over the team’s sign-stealing scandal. Michigan was unable to get a temporary restraining order against the suspension, and the team had to play this weekend’s game against Penn State without him.

The Wolverines won the game, and Harbaugh believes the team should now be “America’s team.”

“They’ve gotta be America’s team. America loves a team that beats the odds, beats the adversity, overcomes what the naysayers, critics and so-called experts think. That’s my favorite kind of team.”

ESPN’s Paul Finebaum called Harbaugh “sad and pathetic” for “America’s team” comments at his press conference.

“I found it sad and pathetic. Why? Because this isn’t America’s team. This isn’t what America’s about.

“Here we are, just days removed from Veteran’s Day where we honor people who are really representative of America. This team is not representative of anything other than a program accused of cheating. Cheating!”

Trying to steal signs to gain an unfair advantage. That’s not the way this country was built and that’s not what should be described as America’s team.”
