Brittney Griner’s situation went from bad to worse after it was announced she was being transferred to a Russian penal colony. This is the worst-case scenario, as she’s basically going to be placed in a worker’s camp living in barracks with other prisoners. Now, USA President Joe Biden releases an official statement regarding the issue.
Joe Biden’s Official Statement Regarding Brittney Griner
According to Sports Illustrated, Biden released his statement just hours after Brittney Griner was announced she was being transferred to a Russian penal colony. The USA President claims, “I am determined to get her home and get her home safely, along with others.”

In addition to Biden’s comments, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke on the issue as well, per Sports Illustrated. He states, “Following a sham trial and the unjust sentencing of Brittney Griner, Moscow is transferring her from a prison in Moscow to a remote penal colony. It is another injustice layered on her ongoing unjust and wrongful detention.”
Hopefully one day the USA can bring Griner home. She’s been sentenced to eight years in prison. It’s an insanely harsh punishment, considering all she had on her was a weed pen at the airport. So, we’ll see how it plays out. We just hope Joe Biden can get her and the other prisoners out of Russia soon.
