Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto is one of the best Major League Baseball players of the last two decades.

But unless you’re a serious baseball fans, you may not know that because, well, Cincinnati.

Votto is a six-time All-Star. He led the league in on-base percentage seven different times and finished inside the top three in NL MVP voting three different times, winning the award in 2010.

By almost any metric, Votto is a surefire Hall of Famer.

That is, unless you ask New York City media blowhard Chris “Mad Dog” Russo.  Russo believes that Votto and fellow star Zack Greinke are not hall of fame players, but rather ‘hall of very good’ players.

Votto wasn’t going to stand for this injustice, and fired back with an all-timer of a response.

“I know what you’re doing,” Votto said before launching into a full-on pro wrestling promo. “You’re looking down on us! A couple small-market, Midwest ball players, just because we’re not big city just like you, Mr. New York City, Sirius XM Radio star, Mr. national television, ESPN star, with your Fifth Avenue ties and your crisp pocket squares, your tailored suits and your polished shoes. And your hair! Your perfectly coiffed, Broadway hair. Must be nice to sit atop that Madison Avenue ivory tower, looking down on us with those luscious locks. Not everyone can be the next Roger Peckinpaugh, Mad Dog! You should be ashamed of yourself! You’re a disgrace!”

To his credit, Russo seemed to take the chiding in stride and even cheered on Votto along the way. And why wouldn’t he? He got the exact response he was hoping for in the interview and it made for incredible television.

When Votto’s MLB career is all said and done, it’s clear that he has a bright future in television if he wants one.
