Jon Rahm has reached an agreement to compete on the DP World Tour. The announcement comes amid speculation surrounding LIV Golf’s future.

While the news is viewed as a win for both parties, Rahm will be forced to pay for his previous standoff with DPWT. He will do so while still being bound to his LIV contract.

Is there a way to break the agreement? At this point in time, he admittedly has no idea.

Jon Rahm agreed to terms with the DP World Tour.

He’d previously refused to adhere to the league’s conditional release in order to be eligible for tournaments. Much has changed in the golf landscape.

LIV Golf’s future is unclear. Funding issues have created questions about sustainability. The Saudi PIF has chosen to reallocate money citing the Iran War.

Without its backing, uncertainty has set in.

LIV says it has the money to finish the 2026 season. After that, it will pursue new fundraising opportunities to continue operations.

“The reality is, we’re funded through the season. And then we’ll work like crazy as a business to create a business plan to keep us going.”

-LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil

By agreeing to terms with the DP World Tour, Rahm returns to good standing with the league. It’s a positive step in his Ryder Cup outlook.

With that said, it will come at a price.

How much is owed to the DPWT?

The DP World Tour and Jon Rahm have come to an agreement on conditional releases to play in conflicting tournaments on LIV Golf during the remainder of its 2026 season.

This involves payment of all outstanding fines accrued from 2024 to date, along with participation in agreed DP World Tour tournaments [outside the majors] in the remainder of the 2026 season.

-DP World Tour statement

The agreement is something that’s been seen with others in LIV Golf, including Tyrell Hatton. Golf Digest reports that Rahm’s penalties were “less than $3 million.”

That shouldn’t be an issue given his ranking as LIV’s top earner at just under $90 million.

Money wasn’t necessarily the issue. Rahm didn’t want to play in required DPWT events on top of his LIV tournaments and four majors. That outlook has since changed. Now, the focus turns to his future with LIV Golf.

Can Jon Rahm break contract?

“I’ll say I’m also not a lawyer. I have no idea. I couldn’t tell you. I have very few talents in my life, and reading a contract or business are not two of them.

“I have several years on my contract left, and I’m pretty sure they did a pretty good job when they drafted that. So, I don’t see many ways out, and as of right now.”

-Jon Rahm

Rahm still has time remaining on his LIV Golf contract. At this point, he believes he may have to honor his end of the bargain so long as the league continues moving forward.

Then again, everyone has their number. He has the money to pay the ransom should a buyout be offered. It might then rest on his willingness to cut ties completely.
