Bills Safety Jordan Poyer shared his experience with ayahuasca, a plant-based medicinal brew, and attributed his introduction to the substance to Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Poyer’s detailed on his experimenting with ayahuasca during his appearance on the RG3AndTheOnes podcast, hosted by former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III.

Poyer didn’t shy away from addressing the skepticism surrounding Rodgers, saying, “I know a lot of people say Aaron Rodgers is crazy… there are thousands of ways to heal but Aaron Rodgers was right in what he was talking about in this medicine.”

Poyer continued: “A lot of people wrote him off, a lot of people think he’s crazy, a lot think he’s just off the wire, but I was interested, so I went,”

The safety also spoke candidly about his struggles with alcohol and the turning point that led him to seek help. “I was this close to losing my family, I’m talking my wife, my daughter,” he disclosed, highlighting the gravity of his situation.

In his path to recovery, Poyer turned to Alcoholics Anonymous and counseling. He shared his new perspective on alcohol, stating, “I look (at alcohol) as poison now, why would I put poison into my body, why would I do it to myself, to my mind?”

Poyer has been a Pro-Bowl level Safety for the Bills since he arrived in Buffalo and his journey to get there has been remarkable. He’s been very open about his low moments and how he bounced back.

Now in his 11th NFL season, Poyer has been a first-team All-Pro in 2021 and has 24 career INTs, 52 passes defended, 747 tackles and 12 sacks.
