With less than a week before golfers start arriving at Augusta National Golf Club for Masters prep, 2-time PGA Championship winner Justin Thomas announced he is parting ways with his caddie Jim “Bones” Mackay.

Justin Thomas has been grinding over the past year after seeing a dip in his game. So mixing up the bag like this isn’t a total shock.

JT announced the move on X, formerly Twitter:

Thomas admitted that he’s been battling through a tough stretch of golf since his last win which came at the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills where he had Bones on the bag.

The timing of this is interesting though. Prior to becoming Justin Thomas’ caddie, Jim “Bones” Mackay was the longtime caddie for Phil Mickelson. Bones caddied for Phil for all but his most recent Major Championship win.

And guess who is also in need of a caddie at the moment?… Phil Mickelson.

Phil announced last week that his brother Tim was retiring after 8 years on the bag for him including Mickelson’s 2021 PGA Championship win, the year prior to JT’s most recent major win.

While there are no immediate indications that Bones will caddie for Phil Mickelson at The Masters this year it would be interesting to see that longtime partnership back together after Bones parted ways with Justin Thomas.
