Keenan Allen has played a lot of football for good quarterbacks. The ten-year veteran played most of his pro football with Philip Rivers, who is likely headed to the Hall of Fame. And, the last three seasons, he’s played with young star Justin Herbert.

Herbert is one of the most promising young players in the NFL, and people fawn over his athletic ability. He battled through injured ribs early in the season and seems back to full strength. That ability was on display Sunday night as he led the Chargers to a huge win over the Dolphins, 23-17. Herbert was 39/51 for 367 yards and a touchdown, with no interceptions.

His star receiver, Keenan Allen, spoke out about Herbert.

Keenan Allen said that Justin Herbert was the best quarterback in the NFL

After Herbert’s virtuoso performance, Keenan Allen spoke highly of his quarterback.

That’s quite high praise, even though I disagree. His physical tools are exceptional, but he is not the best quarterback in the league right now.

It’s a pretty clear tier at the top of Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes. Then, there’s the veterans tier of stars like Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady. Herbert is in that next tier of young stars like Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa, and Lamar Jackson.

But, it’s great that Herbert’s teammates think highly of him. The opposite would be very bad for the franchise. Keenan Allen has to be happy with him after Herbert got him the ball 12 times for 92 yards Sunday night.

The Chargers will take on the Titans next week as they push towards the playoffs.
