Mind-Numbing Tommy DeVito Stat Reflects So Poorly On Kenny Pickett And Pittsburgh Steelers

Kenny Pickett has not been with the Steelers long, but his short career has not been particularly fruitful. One new stat about an undrafted rookie reflects really poorly on Pittsburgh’s franchise quarterback.

Tommy DeVito, the most Italian signal-caller in the NFL, was never supposed to see the field for the Giants this season. He now has more multi-touchdown games than Pickett.

The former Syracuse and Illinois quarterback signed with the team as an undrafted free agent and was relegated to the practice squad after training camp. Tyrod Taylor was ahead of him as the backup. Daniel Jones was ahead of Taylor as the starter.

Injuries to both Taylor and Jones forced New York to tap DeVito. He started the first game of his NFL career on Nov. 5 against Las Vegas.

The Giants lost by 24. DeVito went 15-of-20 for 175 yards with one touchdown and two picks.

DeVito made his second start against the Cowboys and lost by 32. He threw for just 86 yards on 14 completions with two touchdowns and one interception.

His third start came against the Commanders on Sunday. DeVito completed 18-of-26 attempts for 246 yards and three touchdowns.

New York beat Washington 31-19. The first win of DeVito’s career was his second multi-touchdown game.

He now has more multi-touchdown games than Pickett. Seriously.

Pickett threw seven touchdowns in 2022. He threw all seven touchdowns in seven different games during his rookie season.

Pickett has thrown six touchdowns in 2023. He threw two of them against the Raiders in Week 3.

Tommy DeVito — after his third NFL start — has two multi-touchdown games.

Kenny Pickett — after his 21st NFL start — still has just one multi-touchdown game.

A lot of the struggles have not necessarily been the Steelers quarterback’s fault. Doesn’t matter.

A top-20 NFL Draft pick should not have less multi-passing touchdown games than a guy who was never supposed to play this season. Big yikes!
