The 151st edition of the Kentucky Derby has come and gone. Sovereignty emerged victorious by squeaking out a narrow win over favorite Journalism.
Conditions for that race were rainy with the precipitation turning the track into a mess of mud and puddles. The nasty weather did little to dampen the party for those on the infield grounds.
Crowds of patrons gathered at ground level to take in the full Churchill Downs experience. An all-out party erupted as attendees refused to let the rain ruin their weekend.

The infield at the Kentucky Derby is known to be debaucherous. Ticket prices are significantly lower compared to other areas of the venue, giving event goers a little extra dough to spend on the pricey alcohol menu.

Plenty of beverages were consumed. A horseracing tradition made a tame appearance as a result.

The tradition typically makes headlines at the Preakness. Though the venue did its best to crack down on its alcohol policy and clean up its image a bit, the “Running of the Urinals” has somewhat remained.
The premise is simple. Hop atop a row of port-a-potties and race from one end to the other, often while bystanders chuck projectiles (beer cans) at the “competitors.”
The “Running of the Urinals” made a tame appearance at the Kentucky Derby in 2025. Racers were spotted scampering across the tops of port-a-potties, though without the threat of being pelted by a half-empty Bud Light.
While some predicted a ‘death’ of the infield due to the undesirable conditions, those on the grounds refused to stop partying. The scenes at Churchill Downs didn’t disappoint!
