Kevin Love Isn’t A Fan Of The NBA Possibly Changing Its Schedule, Really Doesn’t Want To Lose His Summers

There isn’t a single certainty right now regarding if or when the NBA season will resume in 2020 given the current situation. With China delaying the restart of sporting events in the country on Tuesday it certainly doesn’t feel like we’re anywhere close to having sports return to our lives anytime soon.

The current circumstances could have a long-term effect on sports leagues around the world, particularly regular scheduling being altered in the future. There have been plenty of rumors about the NBA shifting its schedule permanently where the regular season could actually tipoff in December to get back on track after somewhat of a lost season.

While there may be players around the league that wouldn’t mind a new start date to the schedule, Kevin Love is not one of those people. Love joined Trevor Noah on the Daily Social Distancing Show on Tuesday and explained that he wouldn’t want to see that sort of change because he loves his summers too much.

“We have the best schedule,” Love said according to Cleveland.com. “It’s a scholastic schedule and you get summers off. I’ve done it for 25 years now of organized basketball, where it’s September and October (to start) and if you go all the way to the Finals, it’s through June and then get the summers off. We have it really good and that’s not lost on any of us. Obviously drastic times, drastic measures, but would like to keep the same schedule and 82 games.”

Like Love, I think everyone involved with the NBA including fans enjoys the current schedule but given the current situation, the league may not be left with any other option than to alter the season’s format and calendar.

It’s pretty clear that Love enjoyed his long summer last year after his Cavs missed out on the playoffs.
