The Providence basketball team escaped New Jersey with a conference win over Seton Hall on Tuesday night to improve to 11-10 on the year. The game came down to the wire with the Friars emerging victorious, 69-67.

Late in the action, referees called a controversial shooting foul that gave the Pirates a chance to tie things up at the free throw line. Head coach Kim English believed it to be the wrong call, and he made sure to let official know after the fact.

The foul came with just three seconds left in the action and Providence leading by three points. A Friars defender made contact with a Pirates player early to prevent a game-tying three-point attempt.

After feeling that contact, the Seton Hall player hoisted up a prayer with hopes of getting three free throws. Those prayers were answered by referees who awarded him the three-point shot rather than calling the foul on the floor. Kim English was livid.

Seton Hall missed the first attempt from the charity stripe, eliminating the opportunity to tie the game at the free throw line. Isaiah Coleman would then hit his next free throw before intentionally missing the third.

Providence brought down that rebound to secure the two-point win. English’s reaction to the first miss immediately went viral.

Kim English was seen saying, “Ball don’t lie,” when that first shot didn’t fall. The missed call wouldn’t come back to bite the Friars.

The victory helped Providence improve to 5-5 in Big East action as they look to continue climbing up the league standings. With the loss, Seton Hall fell to 6-15 on the season and 1-9 in conference play.
