Thursday was a special day in Los Angeles, as the statue of the late Los Angeles Lakers legend and cultural icon Kobe Bryant was unveiled.

Somehow, it’s been over four years since one of our biggest childhood heroes tragically passed away in a helicopter accident in 2020. Now, he will be immortalized forever.

The date of 2/8/24 is significant as well, as Kobe Bryant’s two numbers with the Lakers were 8 and 24. Had the Lakers not lost to the Nuggets, it would’ve been a perfect day.

But, some people consider the statue and the particular pose that Kobe Bryant is in is ugly.

Kobe’s wife, Vanessa Bryant, had a message to the haters.

“For the record, Kobe picked the pose you’re about to see. So if anybody has any issue with it, tough s—.”

I actually think the pose is pretty cool, and the statue is well-crafted, in my opinion.

Kobe Bryant played his entire career in Los Angeles from 1996-2016. His achievements are too many to name, but I will list off a few. He made 18 All-Star teams, won five championships, two finals MVP’s, one regular season MVP, and 15 All-NBA selections.

For many, Kobe Bryant meant more than just his accomplishments. People admired his insane competitiveness and his loyalty to Los Angeles, even in the lean years during the mid-2000s and near the end of his career.

Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and seven others died in a helicopter crash on their way to a basketball game at Bryant’s facility
