French superstar Kylian Mbappe was the story of the summer in the soccer world. The Paris Saint-Germain forward was linked to a massive move to Spanish giant and reigning UEFA Champions League winner Real Madrid.

That long-rumored never happened, however, and PSG made their young star the highest-paid player in the world. Front Office Sports reports that Mbappe is set to make a jaw-dropping $128 million in 2022-23. While $18 million of that is endorsement money, the remaining $110 million is salary and signing bonus. PSG teammate follows in second at $110. The club is notably owned by the Qatari state.

But just months after signing the blockbuster deal, Mbappe reportedly wants out.

Kylian Mbappe Seeking January Move Away From PSG

ESPN’s Julien Laurens reports the relationship between MBappe and PSG has quickly deteriorated and the star now wants to leave the club.

Sources said Mbappe thinks promises made by sporting director Luis Campos, president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and manager Christophe Galtier have not been kept. Sources close to Mbappe say he made a mistake by agreeing a new deal to stay at the club in May.

One of the promises was that Mbappe would play with a No. 9 next to him in attack who could play as a pivot, but this has not happened. The World Cup winner with France was also told that PSG would recruit another centre-back, which did not happen in the summer, while Mbappe’s relationship with Neymar has deteriorated, sources said.

But the bad news doesn’t stop there for PSG. Le Parisian in France reports that the club could also lead advisor Luis Campos.

Manager Christophe Galtier could also follow both out the door.

Galtier didn’t let the reports affect his team selection. The manager selected Mbappe for his starting 11 for Tuesday’s key Champions League showdown with Portuguese club Benfica.

But the saga seems far from over for the French powerhouse.
