Ryan Day suspended Legend Bey for Ohio State football practice.
The Ohio State football program took to the practice field this week for preseason preparations ahead of an opener vs. Ball State. A freshman face was not in attendance.
Legend Bey did not participate after being suspended by Ryan Day. The head coach dove into that punishment while speaking to the media on Thursday.
Day referenced a “violation of team rules,” though he did not detail Bey’s transgression. Buckeye insiders reached out to their sources after learning of his absence. They’ve identified one of two potential causes.

Bey will not be available the “first couple days” of team practice. He is in Ryan Day’s doghouse, though the offense does not appear to be major.
We should see him back on the field next week. That’s good news for the Buckeyes, even if the immediate absence draws negative attention.
Bey signed with the program following a dramatic offseason recruitment. He flip-flopped between Ohio State and Tennessee up until the last possible moment.
The running back committed to the Vols last summer. He flipped to the Buckeyes in November, less than a month before signing day. Then, things got weird.
Bey switched back to Tennessee in the early signing period. He then suggested that his commitment was coerced.
Last December, he (or someone close to him) posted a bizarre message on social media suggesting his family was upset with his preferred school. Later, a report of a forged signature on Tennessee paperwork surfaced.
Tennessee sources denied the claim, but Bey demanded to be released from his letter of intent soon after. Eventually, he signed with Ohio State. He enrolled in the spring semester. He’s now been on campus six months or so.
It took little time to run into another controversy. Legend Bey is currently suspended. This, too, could be linked to his social media activity.
Why isn’t Legend Bey practicing?
Bucknuts, the Ohio State site for 247 Sports, provided insider knowledge of the situation on Thursday. Dave Biddle believes the suspension is linked to one of two reasons.
Sounds like he went too far on social media with a live TikTok video… or perhaps was late for a meeting.
Biddle spoke to multiple sources. He got two different answers, neither of which would be deemed overly concerning.
With that said, Biddle has more trust in the source that revealed a potential social media infraction. It wouldn’t necessarily come as a surprise given attention received on Bey’s previous online activity.
Details of that TikTok video are unknown. It is not posted on his personal account.
Again, the infraction appears minor, but it was serious enough for Ryan Day to hand down a brief suspension. Bey’s preseason debut will be postponed a few days.
The freshman was one of the top recruits in the nation last season. He rushed for more than 4,000 yards and threw for another 3,500 throughout his high school career. He also scored triple digit touchdowns.
He’s since put in work in the Ohio State weight room. A major body transformation has been on full display during his offseason.
The added weight has many believing he can make immediate contributions at running back. His progress has been momentarily stunted, but it shouldn’t significantly impact his outlook.
We’ll see how he responds to get back into Ryan Day’s good graces.
