Leon Edwards is set to take on Kamaru Usman in a rematch for the Welterweight belt. However, it sounds like the current champ has plans for after this fight.

Jorge Masvidal has consistently called out Edwards through the years. Now, it sounds like a potential fight could be in the works. But there’s a catch.

According to MMA Fighting, Leon Edwards claims he will give Masvidal a title shot if he defeats Gilbert Burns. During an appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Edwards sounds ready to settle their differences. “For sure. If he goes out there and beats Gilbert, I think that’s the fight to make. It’s been a long time, three, four years brewing. Let’s get in there and settle it once and for all and go from there.”

Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal have been going back and forth for quite some time now. Things took a turn back in 2019 when the two got in a scuffle backstage at a UFC event. That’s when Masvidal uttered his now infamous phrase, “I hit him with the three-piece with the soda.”

Although Edwards is laying the parameters to fight Jorge Masvidal, he’s not forgetting his matchup against Kamaru Usman. Additionally, it sounds like the champ thinks Masvidal is a long shot to defeat Gilbert Burns anyway, per MMA Fighting.

At the end of the day, this is one of those fights that fans would like to see come to fruition. However, based on the parameters, it may never happen.
