Rookie running back Jahmyr Gibbs is already making waves at the Detroit Lions‘ OTAs.

According to The Athletic’s Colton Pouncy, Gibbs has been standing out among his teammates, showcasing exceptional route-running skills and displaying natural versatility on the field.

Gibbs, who was selected by the Lions with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, was highly regarded for his explosiveness and pass-catching ability.

Despite being considered the second-best running back behind the highly touted Bijan Robinson, Gibbs’ selection early in the draft demonstrates the team’s belief in his unique skill set.

Listed at 5’9″ and 199 pounds, Gibbs may not fit the traditional mold of a bell-cow running back. However, his lightning-fast running style combined with elite pass-catching prowess has caught the attention of both fans and experts.

Gibbs recorded an impressive 40-yard dash time of 4.36 seconds during the Combine, and his speed translates effectively on the field. His quickness and acceleration make him a mismatch for defenders in both the passing game and open field.

While the Lions’ decision to draft Gibbs at No. 12 surprised many, it was reported after his selection that the team was even considering him as the No. 6 overall pick.

Detroit traded back with the Arizona Cardinals, acquiring additional picks in the process. This move not only secured Gibbs but also hinted at the team’s grand plans for the talented rookie.

Gibbs’ smooth transition and performance during OTAs have solidified the Lions’ faith in their decision to select him in the first round.

As the team prepares for the upcoming season, it is becoming increasingly evident that Gibbs has the potential to be a game-changer and a dynamic playmaker for the Detroit Lions offense.
