The Detroit Lions have officially announced the signing of veteran quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, as reported by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

After a series of discussions and meetings, the Lions have successfully secured Bridgewater’s services, solidifying their quarterback depth chart for the upcoming NFL season.

The pursuit of Bridgewater by the Lions had been ongoing for some time, with initial reports of their interest dating back to March of this year.

The negotiations finally came to fruition after Bridgewater’s visit to Detroit on July 24th, a significant milestone in the signing process.

This visit allowed the Lions’ staff, including offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, to engage with Bridgewater and discuss his potential role within the team.

Teddy Bridgewater, a 30-year-old quarterback with a journeyman career, is no stranger to the NFL landscape.

Selected in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, Bridgewater boasts an impressive career spanning eight seasons, during which he has amassed a total of 15,120 passing yards.

With 75 touchdowns and 47 interceptions to his name, Bridgewater’s experience and skill set make him a valuable addition to the Lions’ roster.

This move positions Bridgewater as the backup to Jared Goff, the Lions’ starting quarterback.

Goff, who was acquired by the Lions in a previous trade with the Rams, will undoubtedly benefit from Bridgewater’s presence as a seasoned veteran with a wealth of experience to share.

Moreover, Bridgewater’s role extends beyond simply being a backup, as he is poised to play a mentoring role for Hendon Hooker, a promising third-round rookie quarterback.

Over the past three years, Bridgewater has solidified his reputation as a reliable and consistent performer on the field. Having started 31 games during this period, he has recorded 37 touchdowns and 22 interceptions while maintaining an impressive completion percentage of 67.6.
