The Louisville baseball team is competing in the College World Series this week as it continues to pursue a national championship. Star infielder Tanner Shiver might have to make a quick trip home before season’s end.
The Cardinals are two wins away from the title series. Postseason success has presented a hectic timeline that could lead the senior directly into the doghouse!
The College World Series started on Friday, June 13th. Participants for the three-game championship set might not be determined until Thursday, June 19th. The title series then kicks off on Saturday, the 21st.
Tanner Shiver is set to get married on Friday, June 20th. It’s a date that’s been set for well over a year.

Shiver played both football and baseball at Tennessee Tech before transferring to Louisville. He never intended on being in this situation with the Cardinals.
“I thought my baseball career was going to be over in June of 2024 at the latest,” he said in Omaha earlier this week. “We set the date not even thinking anything of it.”
Circumstances changed thanks to the transfer portal. He moved on for one final season in the ACC. His team is now one of the last four standing in the championship race.
He was asked about how he intends to navigate the chaos should his team continue to win. He isn’t exactly sure what the plan will look like, but he does know that it will involve a trip back to Louisville, Kentucky.

[My fiancée] actually left in the seventh inning today,” he said after a walk-off win over Oregon State. “I’m still here in Omaha, so, I don’t know right now. We’ll see what happens… Hopefully, we can get on a plane, get married, and both of us fly back.”
He has not booked a flight home. He doesn’t know what day he’ll travel back. The Cardinals play Coastal Carolina on Wednesday afternoon. A win likely sets up another afternoon matchup with the Chanticleers on Thursday.
In theory, he could board a plane after the game, get hitched on Friday, then return on Saturday for a national championship opportunity.
If he is able to pull off the incredible wedding/national championship combo, it would provide the story of a lifetime. It could also, however, put him immediately in the doghouse.
The couple is supposed to start their honeymoon on Saturday; the day the title series starts. “I planned the honeymoon, which now, I don’t know what I’m going to do about that,” he said. “We were supposed to leave on the 21st. We’ll see how that unfolds.”
He hopes to keep that honeymoon destination a surprise. He may not be able to if he’s forced to reschedule. It’s a good problem to have with his Louisville baseball career soon coming to an end. I’m sure everyone involved will celebrate the rain check should it be the result of a national title.
